The Power of Words: Finding Community in the Dementia Journey

The Power of Words: Finding Community in the Dementia Journey In-Person

Join us for a meaningful and supportive gathering that explores how literature can help us navigate and make sense of the dementia journey. This event offers both a forum for conversation and a sense of community for anyone whose life has been touched by dementia.

Award-winning author L. Annette Binder will read from her moving new memoir, Child of Earth and Starry Heaven (Wandering Aengus Press, 2025). The book chronicles her mother Helena’s struggle with dementia and interweaves mythology, poetry, science, and history to find meaning, beauty, and connection in the face of loss. Called “an illuminating and moving meditation on dementia” by Kirkus Reviews and praised as “a powerful read for anyone who has dealt with Alzheimer’s” by the Telegraph Herald, the memoir offers both insight and solace.

The program will encourage interactive conversation, giving participants space to recognize and honor loved ones living with dementia. Resources will also be available, including book lists, online guides, and information about the Upper Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

Together, we will reflect, share, and celebrate the ways words and stories can foster understanding and community.
